Brigade Donates Houses for Two Homeless Families at Nunavil

Commanding 52 Division Brigadier Anura Sudhasinghe said that Army
is now engaged in development activities and community welfare projects,
and Security Forces – Jaffna launched a special housing project
for the Jaffna homeless on concept of the present Jaffna Commander
Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe.
Brig. Sudhasinghe expressed these ideas addressing the audience
gathered to witness the handing over of two more permanent houses
constructed by the troops of the 523 Brigade of Nunavil for two
homeless families on Wednesday (23).
Keys of the houses built at Madduvil, Nunavil West were handed over
to Mr. Arulananthan’s family and Mrs. K. Parameswary’s family by
the GOC 52 Division during a brief function held on Wednesday morning
Total expenditure of about Rs. 1 million for both houses were borne
by 523 Brigade troops who contributed their labour for construction.
Mr. Iyantha Sirisena, an engineer of the Access Engineering also
extended his personal assistance to make this project a success.
The Brigade donated furniture and kitchen items worth about Rs.
30000/= and ten coconut plants to each house at the same function
attended by 523 Brigade Commander Brig. Prabhath Dematanpitiya,
Divisional Secretary Thenmarachchi Mrs. A. Shanthaseelan, Deputy
Director Zonal Education Office Mr. k. Vartharajamoorthy and a large
gathering of senior Army officers and civilians.
Army has so far built 1780 houses for Jaffna homeless families.
