Distributed among Civilians at Army-Organized Medical Camp

Over 1650 civilians
with optical defects in the 52 Division area were blessed with an
opportunity to get their vision checked by specialist doctors and
received spectacles free at the medical camps organized by the 52
Division of Security Forces – Jaffna on Saturday (26) and Sunday
One of the mobile Eye clinics was organized on Saturday at J / Usan
Ramanathan Maha Vidyalaya by the 522 Brigade of Mirusuvil commanded
by Brigadier Athula Silva. Over 600 young and adult civilians in
Thenmarachchi administrative area were given reading glasses while
a few others were referred to hospital clinics for further treatment.
A brief ceremony held to distribute those spectacles was chaired
by General Officer Commanding (GOC) 52 Division Brigadier Anura
Sudhasinghe. During the same event, 50 students who were present
on the occasion were given gift parcels containing 20 exercise books
and 15 pens in each.
The second phase of the programme got underway at J / Nelliady Central
College on Sunday with participation of Commander SF-J Major General
Mahinda Hathurusinghe as Chief Guest. A total number of 1050 civilians
living in Vadamarachchi administrative area received reading glasses
free after check up done by specialists. Meanwhile, 50 students
of four schools also received exercise books, pens and pencils during
the ceremony held prior to the eye clinic organized by the 521 Brigade
with auspices of Brigade Commander Lieutenant Colonel Tikiri Dissanayake
from the Commander SF-J and other distinguished guests.
Visiting Eye Surgeon of the Army Hospital Colombo Dr. Prasanna Gunarathne
assisted by a few other doctors from Jaffna conducted the clinic.
Development Lottery Board (DLB) sponsored the distribution of spectacles.
Hindu and Catholic clergies, Chairman DLB Mr. Jayalath Ravi Dissanayake,
Assistant General Manager DLB Mr. Chanaka Dodangoda, Deputy General
Manager DLB Ms. Vijitha Somarathne, Senior Army officers and distinguished
guests attended both events at Mirusuvil and Nelliady.
