Presence in Jaffna is Gradually Being Reduced,” Jaffna Commander
Tells Aussie Parliamentarians

Security Forces –Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe,
during a meeting with an Australian Parliamentary delegation at
the Headquarters SF-J on Tuesday (13) said that Army is gradually
reducing the presence of military in Jaffna since civil administration
has now been established in the district.
The delegation headed by Ms Maria Vamvakinou, MP, Member for Calwell
of Australian Labour Party, Victoria was on a two-day visit to Jaffna
and before their departure they took a briefing on security and
development aspects in Jaffna from the Commander SF-J.
Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe explained about Army’s housing project for
Jaffna homeless people to the Aussie parliamentarians who were keen
to know more about the housing project, civil military coordination
and other development programmes in Jaffna.
Australian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Her Excellency Ms Kathy
Klugman, MP Mr. Chris Hayes, Senator Ms Helen Kroger, MP Mr. Rowan
Ramsey, MP Dr. Andrew Southcott and Delegation Secretary Ms. Siwan
Davies were also present.
