[Updated :: 2011-12-21 18:23:08 Hours]

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe and officers serving in Jaffna had a memorable evening on Tuesday (20) evening with a group of Jaffna traditional drummers.

Mr S. Allahapillai, leader of the drummers’ team, R. Jeyanandran, K. Sivasothinathan and N. Navveswaram of Karaveddi presented their Thavil and Natha Swaram performances on the occasion of the commissioning of new Officers’ Mess at Palaly on invitation of Commander SF-J.

Opening of the SF-J’s new two-storied Officers’ Mess turned a classic show when the folk artists of “Mathra” team led by Dr. Saman Panapitiya of University of Visual and Performing Arts joined Jaffna players to entertain the audience with harmony of their traditional drum beatings.

Impressed by their performance, Commander of the Army personally appreciated their skills and thanked them for attending the function.

Years old Officers’ Mess at Headquarters SF-J was reconstructed with modern facilities and its opening took place with attendance of the Army Commander as Chief Guest.
