Thavil and Natha Swaram Echoes at SF-J Officers’ Mess

Commander of
the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander Security
Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe and officers
serving in Jaffna had a memorable evening on Tuesday (20) evening
with a group of Jaffna traditional drummers.
Mr S. Allahapillai, leader of the drummers’ team, R. Jeyanandran,
K. Sivasothinathan and N. Navveswaram of Karaveddi presented their
Thavil and Natha Swaram performances on the occasion
of the commissioning of new Officers’ Mess at Palaly on invitation
of Commander SF-J.
Opening of the SF-J’s new two-storied Officers’ Mess turned a classic
show when the folk artists of “Mathra” team led by Dr. Saman Panapitiya
of University of Visual and Performing Arts joined Jaffna players
to entertain the audience with harmony of their traditional drum
beatings.
Impressed by their performance, Commander of the Army personally
appreciated their skills and thanked them for attending the function.
Years old Officers’ Mess at Headquarters SF-J was reconstructed
with modern facilities and its opening took place with attendance
of the Army Commander as Chief Guest.
