[2012-01-11 11:20:16]

Varani-based 52 Division Headquarters, commencing its community welfare project for the new year, distributed cows among nine low-income families living in the Division area on Monday (09) morning.

The donation was sponsored by Cherries Biscuits Company Ltd. as a result of the discussion held between the Commander Security Forces-Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe and the Managing Director Cherries Biscuits Company Ltd, Anuradhapura Mr. Sunil Vidanagama.

Security Forces - Jaffna launched the project of distributing cows among low-income families in Jaffna last year with the aim of uplifting their living standard. Cows are brought from the south with sponsorship of donor organizations and philanthropists.

Monday’s ceremony to hand over cows to civilians was held at the 522 Brigade Headquarters at Mirusuvil with participation of the General Officer Commanding 52 Division Brigadier Anura Sudasinghe as Chief Guest.

Priest of Usan Ramanadan Temple Rev. Sarma, Priest of Durgai Amman Tempel Rev. Navarathnamuhuthan, community leaders in the area and senior officers of the 52 Division and villagers attended the function.
