55 Division of Veththalaikerny last week organized a one day medical
workshop to educate civilians in its area on HIV and other venereal
diseases (VD). The programme was organized aiming civilians and
school children in Thalaiady area where civilians were resettled
a few months ago.
During the programme
held at Thalaiady Roman Catholic Mixed School, Dr. A. Krisvan
of AIDS Prevention Unit in Colombo and Dr. Ganesalingam of AIDS
Prevention Unit in Jaffna conducted lectures in Tamil language
while Dr. N. Edirisinghe delivered lectures in Sinhalese language
for soldiers of the 55 Division.
Nearly 375 civilians
and 400 soldiers attended the workshop.

55 Division Brigadier Ruwan Kulatunge and senior officers of the
55 Division were also present.
