The
64th anniversary of country’s gaining independence was celebrated
by citizens of Jaffna peninsula hoisting flags at their residences
and fixing them vehicles on the Saturday 4th.
National
flags were seen flying at all government buildings, private institutes
and business places in the main city, suburbs and even remote
areas.
A group of patriotic citizens in Manippay area signifying the
freedom being enjoyed by the people in Jaffna organized a peace
march from Uduvil to Marathanamadam junction to coincide the main
Independence Day celebrations held at Oyamaduwa in Anuradhapura
with participation of His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Meanwhile,
Army troops and Chavakachcheri Traders Association (CTA) jointly
celebrated the Independence Day after the President of CTA Mr.
Sri Prakash hoisted the National Flag amidst Chavakachcheri town.
Security
Forces – Jaffna conducted various programmes such as blood donation,
medical and tree planting campaigns etc. at Division, Brigade
and Unit levels.
