A blood donation
campaign was organized by the 513 Brigade of Uduvil on Saturday
(04) to mark the 64th Independence Day Anniversary. Nearly 125 soldiers
serving under the 513 Brigade commanded by Brigadier Pradeep Silva
donated blood to the Jaffna blood bank at Mc Leod hospital in Inuvil.
Impressed
by the soldiers’ act of donating blood, a few youths, who have
come to Jaffna from the south to work under a private engineering
company constructing Jaffna roads, also joined the campaign.
It
is for the third consecutive time that Civil Affairs Office of
the 513 Brigade organized this blood donation on the Independence
Day.
Blood donation
was followed by another meritorious event of providing meals to
inmates of the “Pleasure” Adults’ Home run by Mc Leod hospital.
Twenty two, both males and females are spending their aged life
in this Adults’ Home.
In the evening,
11th Battalion of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (11 SLSR) with collaboration
of Shavalkaddu Mahathma Gandhi Sports Club in Manippay organized
a musical evening at the Sports Club ground. The 11 SLSR group
played at the show. Youths in the area joined this entertaining
event by singing and dancing.

In
the meantime, Headquarters 52 Division of Varani marked this memorable
day with a tree planting campaign. General Officer Commanding
52 Division Brigadier Anura Sudhasinghe and senior officers planted
mango saplings in the Division Headquarters premises.
