Yarl
Beski Pre-school of Gurunagar that had been closed for eight years
was restarted its pre-school education on Wednesday (08) with intervention
of Sri Lanka Army.
The dilapidated
building of the pre-school remained abandoned for eight years
due to terrorist activities in the area. It was completely renovated
and colour washed by the troops of 9th Battalion Sri Lanka National
Guard. The garden was prepared attractively to make it a lovable
place for kids.
A donation
of teaching and learning aid, sports ware, books and furniture
also was handed over to the pre-school and it’s children.
Gurunagar
village is mainly inhabited by fishing community.
Center for
Child Development (CFCD) and residents of Gurunagar new housing
scheme cooperated with the Army to complete this worthy social
welfare project.
General Office
Commanding (GOC) 51 Division Brigadier Piyal Wickramarathne, Mayor
of Jaffna Mrs. Yogeshwari Padgunarasa, Senior Officers of the
51 Division and over 200 villagers were present at ceremony organized
in this regard.
In the meantime,
511 Brigade troops renovated the building of “Udayasuriyan” pre-school
at Selvapuram. Handing over the renovated building to the school
and donating furniture and school items for the use of students
took place with participation of GOC 51 Division as the Chief
Guest on Thursday (09).
“Save the
Children”, an NGO functioning in the area and Mr. Padgunaraja
of Ram Construction sponsored the donation.
Kopay Divisional
Secretary Mr. M Pradeepan, Zonal Director of Education (Primary)
Mr. Vamadewan and senior citizens of the area participated in
the event.
