As
a welfare measure conducted by the Army for Jaffna civilians, 511
Brigade functioning under the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna
(SF – J) organized an eye clinic at J/Atchuvely Central College
on Sunday (12).
With sponsorship
of Atchuvely Lions Club, vision of a large crowd was checked and
spectacles were given free to more than 400 civilians with defects
in their vision. Two eye specialists assisted by six doctors and
six opticians conducted the eye clinic since Sunday morning and
patients who needed further treatments were referred to Jaffna
hospital eye clinic.
During the
same medical camp the brigade had organized a donation of nutritious
food, baby soap and baby cream for 55 expecting mothers in Atchuvely
area.
Commander
SF – J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe participated as Chief
Guest in the eye clinic and handed over pairs of spectacles to
some needy civilians.
Government
Agent Jaffna Mrs. Emelda Sukumar, Regional Director of Health
Services Dr. A. Ketheeswaran, Director Jaffna Teaching Hospital
Dr. P. Pawani, Kopay Divisional Secretary Mr. M. Pradeepan, President
of Atchuvely Lions Club Mr. M. Raguladaran and General Officer
Commanding 51 Division Brigadier Piyal Wickramarathna were also
present.
