At
request of the Civil Affairs office of the 511 Brigade of Atchelu,
a team of specialist doctors from Colombo came to Jaffna to treat
needy civilians in the area on Sunday (18). The medical clinic
was held at J/Kopay Navalar School.
Five cardiologists
and physicians of the Asiri (Private) Hospital Colombo, who volunteered
to comply the request of the Army to help civilians maintain good
health, diagnosed nearly 500 civilians and issued medicine to
many for their illnesses while several others were refereed to
hospital clinics with necessary instructions.
Asiri Hospital team
comprised Clinical Director Dr. A.R. Perera, Consultant Cardiothoracic
Surgeon Dr. Vivek Guptha, Dr. Kolitha Lelvala, Dr. Paul, Physician
Dr. Mrs. Chithrangani Perera, Dr. Mrs S. Guptha, Dr. P.D. Gunasekaram,
and Coordinator Mrs. J.P. Mendis. They were assisted by Cardiologist
of Jaffna Teaching hospital Dr. P. Luxman, Dr. S. VImalendran
of Atchuvely hospital and Dr. K. Jeyaseelan of Kopay hospital.
General Officer
Commanding 51 Division Brig. Piyal Wickramarathne, senior members
of the Atchuvely and Urumpirai Lions Clubs, Civil Administrative
Officers of the area and principals of schools were also present.
