Infrastructure of Four Schools in Thelippalai Improved

Steps to develop infrastructure of four schools in Thelippalai Education Region were initiated by the 513 Brigade of Uduvil with financial support of British School (Private) in Colombo and labour contribution of the troops of 14th Battalion the Gemunu Watch (14 GW) of Chunnakam. Nadeswara Primary School of Manippay, Nadeswara Maha Vidyalaya of Manippay, Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School of Alaveddy West and American Mission Tamil Mixed School of Alaveddy West were the schools selected for this project by the British School in Colombo following a study conducted a few months back.

Requirements of schools were identified after discussions with the principals of respective schools and arrangements were made to complete the project within three days by the 513 Brigade Civil Affairs Office with coordination of the Interact Society of the British School Colombo.

Renovation of sanitary systems, repairing and colour washing of buildings and furniture, installation of water supply systems and reconstruction of dilapidated childrenís gardens were carried out on 7th, 8th and 9th of April by the 14 GW soldiers.

Meanwhile, some furniture including wooden cupboards, steel cupboards, Magi boards, teachersí chairs and tables and water filters were donated to schools by the students of the British School Colombo. Total expense of the project was over Rs 800,000/=

A ceremony to hand over the donations and opening of newly developed infrastructure was held on Monday (09) at Alaveddy South Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School with participation of members of the Colombo British School Interact Society, Education and Civil Administrative officials of the area and senior officers of the 51 Division. During the ceremony, organizers distributed packs of school bags, water bottles and school items among 266 students of the four schools.

Students presented a cultural show for the guests.

General Officer Commanding 51 Division Brigadier Piyal Wickramarathne was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. Rev. Nadarasa Dharmaesa Iyyar, Rev. Fr. Jude Sutharsan, Leader of the Colombo British School Interact Society Shaini de Zoysa, members Thisuri Wanniarachchi, Azra Gafoor, Akild Muhaergin, Nail Lawrence, Jason Samaranayaka, Director of Education Thelippalai Division Mr. S. Kailasanathan, Thelippali Divisional Secretary Mr. Sri Mohan, Brigade Commanders, strudents, teachrs and parents were present on the occasion.
