team of youths from the south came to Jaffna during the April
festival season to celebrate Sinhala and Hindu New Year with youngsters
of the brother community in Jaffna. A cultural festival which
included sports events of Sinhala and Hindu traditions had been
organized by the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) at Jaffna
Hindu College on Thursday (26).
Nearly 400
young boys and girls from areas in the South played traditional
games together with Jaffna counterparts displaying the high sense
of unity and cooperation among the younger generation of the country
whether they are from the South or North.
The opening
ceremony of the festival was attended by Hon. Minister of Youth
Affairs and Skill Development Mr. Dullas Alahapperuma, Governor
Northern Province Major General (Retd) G.A. Chandrasiri, Commander
Security Forces Jaffna Major General Mahinda Hathurusingha, Chairman/Director
General NYSC Mr. Lalith Piyum Perera and a large crowd of distinguished
guests.
