With
view to educating low-income families on nourishment of their
small children and improving their family health, Civil Affairs
Office of the 513 Brigade of Uduvil organized a series of lectures
and workshops for such villagers in the 513 Brigade area last
week. Families of primary level students of 10 schools in the
area were selected for this programme. Dr. K. Karthieepan of Teaching
Hospital Jaffna and one coordinating officer of the “Fontra” Company
cum journalist Mr. Jayasiri Kariyavasam went round 10 selected
schools on 25th, 26th , 27th and 28th educating the needy families
how to make a nutritious meal for children at low cost using local
products such as grain, milk, green leaves and vegetables.

Vidyalaya, Alaveddy South Arunachalan Vidyalaya, Uduvil Murugamoorthy
Vidyalaya, Annaikoottai Balasubramaniyam Vidyalaya, Navali Maha
Vidyalaya, Araly Hindu Vidyalaya, Mullai Sivaprakash Vidyalaya,
Pirapattu Kalaimagal Vidyalaya and Sittankerny Vaddu Hindu Vidyalaya
were the schools selected for this programme which was conducted
for four days.
Over 250 parents
enthusiastically participated in this awareness programme each
day. With coordination of Chief Coordinator Civil Affairs Jaffna
Colonel Christy Jayasinghe and Managing Director (Project) of
Anchor Newdale Company Mr. Nimal Gamage , Anchor Newdale Company
sponsored the Programme.
At the end
of each session, questions were asked from the audience and 20
of them who correctly answered the questions were offered valuable
prizes worth of Rs. 100,000/=.
In addition,
all ten schools involved in the programme were offered Rs. 20,000/=
each.
This was the
first time that the Company selected a remote area to conduct
this programme.
