“Yapa
Patunai Daham Amavai Wesak Zone” that filled hearts of thousands
of Jaffna citizens and visitors from the South with piety, peace,
love and compassion culminated on Tuesday (08) with presenting
awards for the best creations of Wesak Lanterns at the “Wesak
Zone”.
Senior Deputy
Inspector General of Police Northern Province Mr. Gamini De Silva
was the Chief Guest of the “Wesak Zone” final day. Guests on their
arrival were received by Miss Krishnakumar Kajenthini of Erlalai
who got recovery after a surgery for an acute heart disease at
Colombo Asiri (Pvt) Heart Care Centre with the help of the Army.
On invitation
of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) and founder of “Yapa
Patunai Daham Amavai” Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Chief
Incumbent of Colombo Sambodhi Maha Vihara and Chairman of “BAUDDHHYA”
Media Network Ven. Daranagama Kusaladhamma Thero attended the
event as a special guest.
Since the
day it was opened on Wesak Full Moon day (05), massive crowds
including visitors from the South enjoyed Wesak celebrations in
the Jaffna city. Presence of religious leaders of Buddhist, Hindu,
Catholic and Islam faith at the “Wesak Zone” attested religious
harmony prevailing in Jaffna. Majority of the crowd on Tuesday
comprised people from Jaffna.
The lantern
made by the 551 Brigade won the first place while the lanterns
of 523 and 521 Brigades respectively won the second and the thirds
places. Special prize was awarded to the 4th Battalion of Sri
Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (4 SLEME) that created
a model Hell (Narakam) at the “Wesak Zone” which all
visitors to the venue enjoyed.
Students
of Marathanamadam Ramanathan College, Manippay Hindu College,
Uduvil Murugamoorthi college and members of Jaffna Tamil Buddhist
Association and Army singing troupes were given special prizes
by the Commander SF-J for their excellent contribution in singing
Wesak Bhakthi Gee during all four days.

Senior DIG Mr. Gamini De Silva and General Officer Commanding
55 Division Brigadier Ruwan Kulathunge also awarded the prizes.
