and peaceful country for future generations was remembered and
honoured in a grand commemoration ceremony on Thursday (17) morning
near the War Hero Memorial at Headquarters Security Forces - Jaffna
(HQSF-J) at Palaly when the country celebrates the third year
of defeating terrorism.
Official ceremony commenced with hoisting of the National Flag
flanked by the Northern Provincial Flag and the HQSF-J Flag and
singing of the National Anthem. Later, Hon. Governor Northern
Province Major General (Retd) G.A. Chandrasiri, the Chief Guest,
Hon Parliamentarian for the Jaffna District Mr. M Chandrakumar,
Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander
Security Forces – Kilinochchi Major General Krishan De Silva,
Government Agent Jaffna Mr. S. Arumainayagam, Chief Secretary
to the Northern Provincial Council Mrs. R. Vijayaluxmi, Mayoress
Jaffna Mrs. Y. Pathgunarasa and a section of distinguished guests
placed bouquets of flower at the foot of the Monument erected
to remember the War Heroes who paid supreme sacrifice for the
sake of sovereignty and integrity of the motherland during the
thirty year war.

dance of the students of Vavuniya Ulukkulama Sri Sumana Maha Vidyalaya
preceded the welcome speech by Chief Secretary to the Northern
Provincial Council Mrs. R. Vijayaluxmi.
ceremony reached its most emotional and much awaited climax where
students of the North pinned the uniform of soldiers, sailors
and airmen who turned differently able in the war, with Ranaviru
badges and offered each of them a lotus paying their gratitude
to heroes who ushered a violence-free and peaceful country for
them to live in. Special gifts were presented to war heroes by
the Chief Guest and other distinguished guests.
Chief Guest’s speech, the Northern Governor extended his gratitude
to Security Forces for their commitment in bringing peace to our
motherland. He reminded that only after they liberated the country
from terror, rays of development fell on the Northern soil. He
further said that soldiers’ untiring effort taken in accelerated
de-miming in the affected areas enabled early resettlement of
over 300,000 civilians in their original homesteads. The Governor
appreciated the troops’ contribution in the government’s present
development programme for the North.

to Security Forces for eliminating terrorism from the country.

Neweathana Kalamandiram presented cultural performances during
leaders, Government Agents of Mannar, Mullaithivu and Kilinochchi
Districts, Civil Administrative Officials, Consulate of India
in Jaffna Mr. T. Mahalingam, senior government officials representing
all government institutes in the North, Senior Armed Forces and
Police Officers , teachers and school children also participated
in the event.
