512 Brigade Releases Some Houses to their Owners

In continuation with the programme of vacating the civiliansí properties occupied by Army in Jaffna, 25 houses and 2 plots of lands remained in the 512 Brigade enclosure of Ariyalai were handed back to their owners on Friday (18) in the presence of representatives of the Civil Administrative authorities in the area.

This stretch of lands and houses was taken over by the Army in 1995 after defeating the LTTE terrorists who had been using this venue as one of their training facilities.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) 51 Division Brigadier Piyal Wickramarathne, participating in the event as the Chief Guest, thanked the owners of those lands for their cooperation extended to the Army during the respective period and assured future humanitarian assistance to them on their request.

Valid documents in connection with handing over the properties were delivered to Mr. E. Surendranathan, Assistant Director (Plan) of the Nallur Divisional Secretariat by the GOC 51 Division.

Commander 512 Brigade Colonel Ajith Pallawala, senior officers of the 51 Division and owners of those houses were present.

Brigade is making hasty arrangements to release the remaining houses and plots of lands to their owners in near future.
