Under
the housing project launched by the Ministry of Social Services
to provide shelter for homeless disable people in Jaffna, 59 such
Jaffna citizens will get permanent houses from the government soon.
The project
was launched on Friday (08) laying the corner stone for the house
of Mr. P. Patheerselvam of Melvam in Uduvil in a brief ceremony
attended by Hon. Minister of Social Services Mr. Felix Perera,
Secretary to the Ministry Mr. R.M.S. Rathnayake, Commander Security
Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Government
Agent Jaffna Mr. S. Arumainayagam and Senior officers of the Army
and the civil administrative service.
Mr. Patheerselvam
is a father of 8 and lost one of his legs some time back due to
an illness. Ministry will provide financial assistance for construction
of houses to other beneficiaries through their Divisional Secretariats.
Hon. Minister
later attended another function at Weerasingham Hall in Jaffna
where 100 disable civilians were donated 50 wheelchairs and 50
hand crutches. Those recipients were selected by the 51 Division
of Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) with coordination of respective
Divisional Secretaries.
On the same
occasion, 200 elderly persons over the age of 70 years received
pass books with deposit of Rs. 1000/= each. They will receive
this allowance every month.
