“There
are no Sri Lankan Tamils, Sri Lankan Muslims or Sri Lanka Sinhalese.
There is only one nationality in our country. It is Sri Lankan
because this country belongs to all of us. This is the message
that should be carried forward by our younger generation,” Commander
Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe
said addressing a gathering of teachers, students, parents and
education officials in Jaffna on Monday (25) attending a function
at J / Thelippalai Mahajana College.
The function
was organized to hand over a stock of furniture worth over Rs.
1.35 million to the college. The donation included 300 student
chairs, 300 student desks, 25 chairs and 25 tables for teachers.
The donation
came to the college by renowned businessman and philanthropist
Deshamanya Ken Balendra at request of Commander SF-J Major General
Hathurusinghe.
Responding
to a request of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban
Development Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Deshamanya Ken Balendra donated
Rs. 24 million to construct a three-storied building to the Mahajana
College recently. Constructions were completed by the soldiers
serving in Jaffna within 9 months. Commitment and efficiency of
soldiers saved more than Rs. 1 million of the estimated cost.
At request
of Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe, Deshamanya Ken Balendra spent that
saving to purchase those desks, tables and chairs for the school.

Education, Cultural and Sports Northern Province Mr. S. Sathyaseelan,
General Officer Commanding Brigadier Piyal Wickramarathne, Commander
515 Brigade Brigadier Buwaneka Randeniya, Zonal Director of Education
Valikamam Mr. Rajendran, Principal of Mahajana College Mr. Velsivanathan
and former Principal Mrs. Ananthsayanan were also present.
