To
eradicate the threat of dengue and to save the lives from being
victim to this deadly epidemic, the 55 Division of Vettalaikerny
organized an anti dengue campaign in Pallai town area on 20th
June.
Troops of
the 23rd Gemunu Watch and 15th Sri Lanka National Guard serving
under the 552 Brigade participated in the programme.
Garbage dumps,
abundant lands, blocked drains and other mosquito breeding places
were cleared and polythene and waste items scattered around were
collected and set on fire. Pachchilaippalli Pradeshiya Sabha cooperated
with the soldiers to make this programme a success.
Meanwhile,
soldiers and the officials of the office of Public Health Inspector
Pallai went from door to door and gave necessary instructions
which help prevention of environment pollution and maintaining
sanitation in the area. In addition, posters and banners were
displayed in the town area to educate the public on dengue and
preventive measures.
Nearly 65
soldiers took part in this one day anti dengue programme.
