with the Dengue Prevention Month declared by the government from
25th June to 26th July, troops of the 51 and 52 Divisions launched
an anti dengue campaign on 26th June and 4th July in the areas
where their troops are serving.
Officials of regional health departments and residents in respective
areas joined the troops in the programmes launched with supervision
of General Officers Commanding of the two Divisions Brigadier
Piyal Wickramarathne and Brigadier Anura Sudhasinghe.
The campaign organized by the 51 Division was conducted by the
troops of 511,512 and 513 Brigades. They started the campaign
cleaning the surrounding of the Division Headquarters at Kopay
and then moved on to clean the Kondavil CTB depot, Athcuvely hospital
site, Magnanthari Kovil, schools and hospitals in their areas.
An awareness programme to educate people on dengue was organized
at J / Vasavilan Sri Velupillai school by the Army.
Troops of 521, 522 and 523 attended this health promoting programme
cleaning mosquito-breeding places and educating students and people
on dengue. Civilians in the areas cooperated with soldiers to
carry out a successful dengue prevention programme.
