Buddhist Monks Help Velanai Students & Offer School Items

A team of Buddhist monks, having realized the needs of some students and their school in Velanai, distributed a stock of school items during their visit to the island on 10th July. Senior Lecturer at University of Sri Jayawardhanepura and Chief Incumbent of Pepiliyana Sunethradevi Maha Vihara Ven. Dr. Medagoda Abeytissa Thero and a few Buddhist monks accomplished this social worthy act offering books, pens, pencils and many other items needed for schoolwork to 166 students of J / Velanai Sarasvathi Vidyalaya.

A stock of stationeries and a water filter were also donated to the school at the same time. Those items for the school were handed over to the principal of the school Mrs. Nanthani Panchalingam by the Nayaka Thero. The event was coordinated and a brief function to hand over the items was organized by the 17th Gemunu Watch (17 GW) serving in the Kayts island.

Commanding Officer 17 GW Lieutenant Colonel Senaka Premawansa, Civil Affairs Officer of the 51 Division Lieutenant Colonel E.H.S.R. De Silva and Zonal Director of Education Kayts K. Saravanabavananthan also participated in the function.
