Nearly
45 small children who were reading their first letters amidst
immense hardships due to absence of a pre-school building in the
village were blessed with a spacious and beautiful hall where
they can comfortably continue with pre-school learning, thanks
to the Army personnel serving in Nagarkovil area.
The teacher
and children used to gather under a big Margosa tree to have their
pre-school even amidst adverse weather conditions for many months.
Commander
551 Brigade Brigadier Hemantha Kulathunge who learnt about the
situation discussed with the Commanding Officer 10th Vijayabahu
Infantry Regiment Major Upul Sathurusinghe who employed his troops
to build a suitable and attractive building for children of Kalaimagal
Pre-School using local resources found in the area.
It was declared
open and handed over to the teacher and students by the General
Officer Commanding 55 Division Brigadier Ajith Wijesinghe on 20th
July at a small function attended by Rev. Fr. R. Jesuratnam of
Champianpattu St. Philip Nary’s Church, principals of nearby schools
and officials of Vadamarachchi East Divisional Secretariat.
Books, pencils
and other school items were gifted to students by the Army.
Nagarkovil
East is a recently resettled remote area in Vadamarachchi after
demining was completed by the Army Engineer troops and foreign
demining agencies.
