serving under the 52 Division based in Varani engaged in religious
activities such as Bodhi Pooja and performances at Hindu
temples from 19th to 24th August celebrating the 17th anniversary
of their Division. On the 17th, General Officer Commanding (GOC)
52 Division Brigadier Anura Sudhasinghe and all ranks gathered
at the Bo Maluwa in the Division Headquarters premises
to take part in a Bodhi Pooja held to bless all who are
presently serving, to pass merits to soldiers who sacrificed their
lives for the sake of the country’s sovereignty and to wish fast
recovery to those who are undergoing treatment for injuries sustained
in the humanitarian war.
Hindu traditions, a special Pooja was held at Sri Suththipuram
Amman Kovil at Varani on the 21st morning. Meanwhile, many sports
activities had been organized for officers and other ranks throughout
the period at different locations in the 52 Division area.
a Guard of Honour was accorded to the GOC on the 24th at the parade
ground and it was followed by an all ranks lunch where the GOC
and other senior officers shared a happy moment with all officers
and other ranks.
The 52 Division
which was raised on the 24th August1995 on operational requirements
rendered a yeoman service to the Sri Lanka Army during the war.
Troops of the 52 Division are now playing a pivotal role in uplifting
the living standard of civilians in respective areas through various
welfare projects and contributing a greater share in government’s
development programmes in the peninsula.
