18 GW Troops Colour Wash Kovilakkandy School

[2012-09-06 11:52:21]

Kovilakkandy Luxmy Maha Vidyalaya which presented an ugly picture with weather-stricken parapet and dirty old building walls became an attractive place for its students after the soldiers of 18th Gemunu Watch (18 GW) colour washed it during the August school vacation.

School authorities sought the help of soldiers at the nearby Army camp to get the buildings colour washed since the school had hardly any fund to spend on the labour cost. It was further learnt that students there come from low income families.

Acting on the school’s request, Commanding Officer 18 GW Lieutenant Colonel Sampath Bulathgama assigned 25 soldiers to complete the task on 24th August.

Kovilakkandy Luxmy Maha Vidyalaya is a school in a remote village with limited resources.
