A
group of senior citizens livng an isolated life in their old age
at Kaithady “Shanthi Nilayam” (State Home for Elders) had a day
full of happiness and emotion when the soldiers of 7th Vijayabahu
Infantry Regiment (7 VIR) visited those elderly fathers and mothers
with gifts last week.
The visit followed another programme on 28th September where the
7 VIR troops spent the whole day at “Shanthi Nilayam” cleaning
the Home and its sorrounding. Bushes were cleared and uneven ground
was leveled using earth moving machines and hand tractors to prevent
water from getting collected and being stagnated.
Marking the World Elders’ Day, Commander 523 Brigade Colonel M.W.A.A.
Wijesuriya and Commander 7 VIR Lieutenant Colonel W.M.N.K.D. Bandara
together with his troops visited the Elders’ Home on 2nd October
and treated all inmates with specially prepared lunch.
Happy adults, although feeble physically in their old age invoked
their blessing on soldiers who showed love and empathy towards
them on the international day for elders.
