Naga Vihara Annual Katina Pinkama Held

Annual Katina Perehera of Jaffna Sri Naga Vihara was organized by the Sri Lanka Army this year too in grandeur with guidance of Ven. Meegahajandure Siri Vimala Thero of the temple and Commander Security Forces Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe on Sunday, November 25th.

The procession comprising a jumbo of Colombo Gangarama Raja Maha Vihara, Kandyan dancers, Jaffna traditional dancers and various other items presented by Jaffna school children, aesthetic institutes and soldiers started near the Weerasingham Hall and proceeded along the Hospital Road, Rasavinthottam Road and reached the Naga Vihara along the Stanley Road.

Thousands of Jaffna people and visitors from the South who flocked to the Naga Vihara Junction and to either side of the Perahera route witnessed this annual Buddhist religious pageant in Jaffna.

The Katina Chivara (robe) was brought from the Civil Affairs and Public Relations Office to the temple early morning the following day in a Perahera preceded by traditional drummers and Buddhist flag bearers.

Headquarters 51 Division of Kopay assisted by Jaffna Tamil Buddhist Association, Brigades and Units serving under the 51 Division made all arrangements to make the event a colorful one.

Clergy of other Religions, Mayoress Jaffna Mrs. Yogeswari Pathgunarasa, General Officer Commanding 51 Division Brigadier Chandana Gunawardane, Senior Military and Police officers and Jaffna Community leaders and a large crowd of civilians witnessed the evening Perahera.
