Lanka Army officially released the lands at Ramavil where former
IDP Welfare Centre stood on Friday, December 21st. This 32 acre
land, owned by 45 families was earlier encroached and used by
the LTTE as a terrorist base until the Army expelled the terrorists
and liberated it in 1996. Later, Army established a camp there
to prevent intrusion of terrorists and ensure the security in
escaped the LTTE held area and made their way to government held
areas during the recent Humanitarian Operation, this land was
converted to a welfare centre.
with completion of early resettlement of IDPs in the peninsula
this year the Ramavil Welfare Centre was closed down. Then the
Army, using the troops of 523 Brigade took over the task of cleaning
and reconstruction of the land before it was released to be handed
over to owners.
Security Forces Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe
attended the function organized in this regard at Ramavil as Chief
Guest. Divisional Secretary Chavakachcheri Ms Shanthiseelan, General
Officer Commanding 52 Division Brigadier Anura Sudhasinghe and
senior officers of the SF-J were present on the occasion.
