Jaffna Christmas Carol Held at OLR Church

Emphasizing the value of peace and love and displaying religious harmony in Jaffna, thousands of Christians and people of other religious denominations gathered to one audience to witness Christmas Carol 2012 organized by the Security Forces Jaffna (SF-J) at “Our Lady of Refuge” (OLR) church, Jaffna on 2nd January 2013 evening.

Before this annual religious event organized by the Headquarters SF-J with coordination of the Jaffna Bishop House commenced, the Bishop Jaffna Most Rev. Fr. Dr. Thomas Sauntharanayagam and the Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe unveiled a cow-shed put up close to the venue of the main event.

At the inauguration of the 2012 Christmas Carol service, invited guests lit the traditional coconut oil lamp. Lighting the oil lamp was followed by launch of “Holy Mary TV”, the new Christian Chanel belonging to ASK Media, by Most Rev. Fr. Dr. Thomas Sauntharanayagam and Maj. Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe at invitation of Mr. S.S. Kuhanathan, Director ASK Media.

Opening prayer was conducted by Rev Fr. Micheal Sauntharanayagam of St. Xavier Seminary Jaffna.

Choirs of Convent of Our Lady of Lanka of Atchuvely, St. Patrick College Jaffna, Cannan Cathedral Iruppalai, St, Mary’s College Jaffna, St Anne’s Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School Manippay, Holy Family Convent Jaffna, Assembly of God Kondavil, St. Rock Roman Catholic Vidyalaya, Church of South India Uduvil, Navanthurai Roman Catholic School, Vembady Girls’ High School Jaffna and National Christen Fellowship of Sri Lanka sang devotional songs to the music of Army band.

Bishop Jaffna addressing the gathering appreciated the effort and interest taken by the Army to organize Christmas Carol.

Santa Clause who joined the event thrilled the crowd with their dance and pleased children giving away Christmas gifts.

The culmination, as usual, was marked with a fabulous firework display.

Nallai Atheenan Srilasri Somsunthar Thesika Paramacharya Swamigal, Mayoress Jaffna Mrs. Yogeswari Pathgunarasa, District Judge Mr. A.A. Anantharaja, Magistrate Jaffna Mr. P. Sivakumar, senior government officials and a large crowd witnessed the event.
