Jaffna Joins to Celebrate Independence Day

[2013-02-04 17:15:23]

Coinciding with the state ceremony held to celebrate the 65th Independence Day in the port city of Trincomalee, people in Jaffna marked the Independence Day hoisting National Flags in front of their houses and business places on Monday, February 4th.

The National flags were seen fixed on busses, three wheelers, bikes and all kinds of vehicles plying about since early morning.

Other than the Jaffna city centre, almost all houses and business places in every town and other remote areas including islands had the National Flag flying depicting the unity and sovereignty of the country.

Civil Affairs Office of the 513 Brigade of Uduvil had organized a blood donation campaign on the Independence Day. Nearly 100 soldiers serving in the 513 and the 515 Brigade in Kankesanthurai donated blood to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital blood bank during the campaign held at Marathanamadam Mc Loid hospital. Old mothers resident in the adjoining Elders’ Home were offered with lunch by the troops of the 513 Brigade.

The 3rd Vijayabahu Regiment at Urelu offered soft drinks to people at their Dansala.
