Soldiers Welfare Further Enhanced; Secretary Defence Declares Open Multi Facility Complex at SFHQ -(J)

Enhancing welfare facilities further for soldiers who dedicatedly contributed to bring peace to the motherland ending terrorism, a modern MULTI FACILITY COMPLEX was declared open at Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna premises on Tuesday, February 12th by Hon. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Secretary Defence.

On invitation of the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Hon. Secretary Defence ceremonially declared open the air conditioned building complex comprising a cinema hall cum stage theatre with 350 seating capacity, a hair dressing centre, tailor shops, a billiard palour and a cafeteria which would provide a better service to soldiers serving in the peninsula.

Under the welfare promoting programmes depicted in the “Mahinda Chinthana” for soldiers, financial allocation for the project was approved by the Army Headquarters. Commander SF-J personally supervised the constructions of the building complex completed by the 5th Corp of Engineer Services with the aim of giving the best facilities to soldiers who are presently committed to bringing the past glory back to Jaffna apart from their prime duty of ensuring security in the peninsula.

The approximate construction cost including installation of modern equipment, projectors, multi media and sophisticated lighting system in the cinema hall and modern furniture exclusively meant for the cafeteria and the saloon, has been estimated to be Rs. 52 million.

A brief documentary film on welfare and development projects initiated by the Security Forces - Jaffna was screened and a cultural dance was staged following the opening of the cinema hall with participation of Hon. Secretary Defence as Chief Guest.

The maiden show after the opening of the cinema hall cum auditorium was staged for soldiers on Tuesday evening with gracious presence of Hon. Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa as Chief Guest. Popular artists, Jaffna soldiers and Army cultural troupe and orchestra presented items during the show.
