[2013-03-01 20:14:18]

Commander Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe said that all possible steps would be taken by the Army to improve the life standard of needy families in Jaffna. Attending a function organized by the 511 Brigade to hand over a newly constructed house to an ex-LTTE member, Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe further said that Army has no hatred towards former LTTE combatants and most of them are considered as a set of people misled by a terrorist group motivated by separatist ideology.

The function was organized to hand over a new house constructed by the 25th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (25 VIR) of Urelu to M. Mahendraraja who had served eight years in the LTTE intelligence wing. Later, he had surrendered to the Security Forces and underwent rehabilitation at Marathanamadam Rehabilitation camp in Vavuniya.

In the meantime, his wife M. Kumajini met the Commander 511 Brigade Colonel Wijendra Goonathilake and revealed the agony she and her two children undergoing without a house to live in. With blessing of the SF-J Commander, 25 VIR soldiers constructed this house worth of Rs. 550,000/= within three and half months at Urumpirai East. Mahendraraja completed his rehabilitation period on 15.02.2013 and joined his family to live in a new home gifted by the Sri Lanka Army.

During his address, SF-J Commander queried whether how much money the so called Tamil Diaspora has spent for the betterment of Jaffna people. He said that they, with some interested political elements here, are instead sowing seeds of hatred between communities and undermining hard-earned peace.

Security Forces – Jaffna has so far constructed 1781 houses for low income families in Jaffna.

Today’s function was attended by General Officer Commanding 51 Division Brigadier Chandana Goonawardane, Commanding Officer 25 VIR Lieutenant Colonel Fariz, Divisional Secretary Kopay Mr. S. Pratheepan, Principal of College of Education Kopay Mr. Yogananthan and senior citizens in the area.
