Norwegian Ambassador Meets Jaffna Commander

Her Excellency Crete Lochen, Norwegian Ambassador to Sri Lanka during her visit to Jaffna on Friday (28) took an update on Army’s role in post-conflict Jaffna from the Commander Security Forces – Jaffna Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe.

The diplomatic team comprised the ambassador and Ms Vibeke Pippi G. Soegaard, the Counsellor of the Royal Norwegian Embassy.

Commander SF-J gave a full account on the welfare programmes initiated by the Army for destitute families in Jaffna including the housing project and livelihood promoting projects in effect targeting low income families and Ex-LTTE members and their families.

In addition, Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe explained the rapid development programmes being augmented in the peninsula by the government and Army’s involvement in those projects. He also described about healthy relations being maintained between the Army and civil community in Jaffna to the visiting diplomats who appreciated the Army’s commitment shown to raise the life standard in Jaffna.
