[2013-03-21 09:27:26]

Mass protest to the resolution to be brought against Sri Lanka in Geneva was shown by the people of Jaffna on Wednesday (20) in a massive protest march in the Jaffna city centre. Nearly 7000 civilians including men and women and rehabilitated former LTTE members from different parts of the peninsula joined the protest march that started from the Muniyappan Kovil close to the public library around 10.00 a.m.

Protestors, holding National Flags, shouted slogans condemning the America’s effort to undermine the Sri Lanka’s hard-earned peace and expressed their solidarity to the government of Sri Lanka and the His Excellency the President.

The march proceeded along the Muniswaran road, hospital road, Palaly road, Stanley road and Kasturiyar road before it reached close to the Jaffna main bus stand where they set fire to effigies of leading foreign figures who are canvassing votes for the US-backed resolution against Sri Lanka.

The crowd, after a peaceful protest handed over a memorandum to the office of the Northern Governor urging onward actions to stop the Geneva effort against Sri Lanka.

Former LTTE spokesman Daya Master and a few community leaders led the protest.
