Army Donates another House to a Poor Family in Maruthankerny

A family of nine which did not have a permanent shelter to live in was donated a new house by the 10th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (10 VIR) serving at Nagar Kovil. Mr. Subramaniumís Dream of a permanent house for his family became a reality when the Army offered him the new house, built by the 10 VIR soldiers, on 25th March.

Construction of the house for Mr. Subramanium commenced after he reached the Commanding Officer of 10 VIR Major JSU Sathursinghe for assistance to build a house for his family. With auspices of General Officer Commanding 55 Division Brigadier Ajith Wijesinghe, officers and men of the 10 VIR completed it within a short span of time.

It was handed over to the recipient by the GOC 55 Division on 25th March in the presence of senior Army officers and sections of civilians in the area including Rev. Thavarasa Kurukkal, Administrative Officer of Maruthankerny Divisional Secretariat Mr. P. Kanagamoorthy, Grama Niladharis of the area and Fisheries Community Chairman Mr. Sivagnanam. Commander 551 Brigade Colonel S.M.S.P.B. Samarakoon was also present.

Members of the family were given away gift parcels by the Army.

This is the 1783rd house built by the Security Forces Jaffna for Jaffna civilians.
