Avarankal Civilians Get United against Diaspora’s False Propaganda

[2013-03-29 10:01:23]

A group of opportunists, self claimed as members of a London-based organization named “Avarangal Onriam”, who tried to provoke the residents in Avarankal in Jaffna against the Security Forces and the government, was chased away by the people in the area on 26th March evening.

They had planned to sell a book titled “20th Century History SivathalamAvarankal” written by a retired principal of a leading school in Jaffna District who is presently living in the UK.

The campaign had been arranged by the organizers in front of the Sivashakthi Mani Mandapam at Avarankal. However, civilians in the area who opposed the “Avarangal Onriam”-based anti social campaign had claimed that the false information in the book directly affect the peaceful environment prevailing in the area and invite terrorism again. They further launched a protest saying that security Forces, as mentioned in the book, are not involved in killings or abductions in the area.

People especially were annoyed to find that names of some living people are also mentioned in the book as killed during the humanitarian war.

Later, irate civilians set fire to about 80 copies of the book and warned the members of so called “Avarangal Onriam” that they would face bad repercussions if they try to organize that type of campaigns again.
