As all Hindus in the Jaffna peninsula are now getting ready to
celebrate the Sinhala and Hindu New Year, the first new year festival
in Jaffna was organized by the 552 Brigade for civilians at Iyakkachchi
on 07th April at Iyakkachchi public ground.
A range of
Sinhala and Hindu traditional sports had been organized for civilians
of all ages and weaving cajans, passing eggs, sack race, breaking
pots, tug-of-war and climbing greasy pole were among them.

An evening musical show was organized by the Army. People in Iyakkachchi
and surrounding areas, especially young crowd, had fun dancing
and singing to the tune of the 12th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment
beat group who sang popular Sinhala, Tamil and English songs for
the entertainment of the crowd.
