“Win Targets of Your Education and Serve the Country,” - Secretary Defence tells Jaffna Students

“When different languages, religions and cultures of a country are united, that country can move on the path of development easily. We should always look into the development of our own country. We must work towards the betterment of the motherland instead of striving to develop other countries serving abroad”, said Hon. Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa addressing a gathering of schoolchildren, teachers and parents.

The event was organized by the Headquarters 52 Division at Varani to distribute school uniforms to 1500 students, dress materials to 100 teachers and 24 principals of 24 schools in Mirisuvil-based 522 Brigade area on Monday, 22nd April at Varani.

Hon Secretary Defence, speaking further said that we, as a nation, lived divided for years and now we are moving towards the development together. He requested the students to win targets of their education and serve the country.

At request of the Army, Mr. Morris Saunders Jayatilake, a businessman presently living in Canada and his friends Mr. Ajith Senanayake, Mr. Robert Anurashantha and Mr. Anura Dharmaratne made this worthy donation to Jaffna students. Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa appreciated the magnanimity of those gentlemen during the function.

Students of Varani Maha Vidyala, Mirisuvil Government Tamil Mixed schools and Navatkuly Maha Vidyalaya who presented cultural dances during the function were also awarded special gifts by the 52 Division.

General Officer Commanding 52 Division Brigadier Anura Sudhasinghe welcomed the Chief Guest and all present on the occasion and Zonal Director of Education Chavakachcheri Mr. P. Krishnakumar delivered the vote of thanks.

Chief Priest of Usan Temple Rev. Kanthasamy Kurukkal, Commander Security Forces – Jaffna Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Additional Director of Education Northern Province Mr. P. Vikneswaran, Senior Officers of the Army and Northern Province Education Department also attended the event.
