Soldiers serving in Jaffna took a time off from their hectic days to concern on spiritual satisfaction engaging in religious activities after observing Sil on Wednesday (23). Nearly 2000 soldiers including the Commander Security Forces Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe and all senior officers observed Sil at SF-J Headquarters premises.

This Sil campaign was organized as a precursor to the SF-J grand Vesak festival to commence on 24th May at Jaffna town. Eminent Buddhist monks and University lecturers such as Kammattanacharya Ven. Iddamalgoda Vajiragnana thero of Kanduboda International Meditation centre, Ven. Dr. Malvane Chandaratana thero of University of Kelaniya, Rajkeeya Panditha Ven. Dodampahala Rahula thero, Prof. W.A. Gnadasa Perera of University of Sri Jayawardanepura and Dr. Gamini Ratna Sri of University of Sri Jayawardanepura conducted discussions on Dhamma, meditation sessions and timely lectures on stress management, positive thinking, music therapy as a remedy to youth unrest and role of the soldier as a responsible member in his own family.

Security Forces Jaffna regularly educate its soldiers on moral and spiritual development through various religious programmes and lectures. Coinciding with the 2600th Sri Sambuddhatwa Jayanthi celebration, nearly 1500 Jaffna soldiers including the incumbent SF-J Commander observed Sil in 2011 at the same premises. Such programmes which help inculcate moral qualities like compassion, love and affection and good interpersonal relationship have had a great impact on soldiers in performing their duties and behaving with civilians during various social obligations.

With coordination of the Headquarters SF-J, the 52 Division commanded by Brigadier Anura Sudhasinghe organized this religious programme.
