Security Forces Jaffna Extends Livelihood Assistance to Thirty Widow Families

In another exceptional humanitarian assistance extended for Jaffna low income families by the Sri Lanka Army, the 511 Brigade of Atchely serving under Security Forces Jaffna (SF-J) distributed livestock and other material aid among 30 women-headed families on Friday, 31st May 2013.

The donation worth over Rs. 1 million included 16 cows, 7 goats, 100 chicks, 11 sewing machines and 2 water pumps. With coordination of Additional Secretary of Ministry of Defence Mr. S. Hettiarachchi and the Commanding Officer 5th Sri Lanka Light Infantry (5 SLLI) Lieutenant Colonel G.A.L. Kithsiri, Netherland Alumni Association of Lanka (NALL) sponsored this valuable donation which was given to 30 widows whose husbands died during the war.

Out of the herd, 6 cattle were donated by Ven Ananda thero of Wellawatte Sri Vijayaramaya. Meanwhile, parcels of gifts given by Mr. Wasantha Jayalath living in Australia, a friend of 511 Brigade Commander Colonel Priyanka Fernando were also given to small children present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering at the end of the function organized at Atchuvely Central College, President NAAL Mr. S.P.C. Kumarasinghe expressed his pleasure for getting opportunity to help those innocent and needy families in Jaffna.

Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe conveyed his profuse thanks to Mr. S. Hettiarachchi and members of NAAL for their gesture of goodwill extended to the Army presently committed to creating self employments for destitute families in Jaffna to improve their economy and life standard. He further said that all citizens irrespective their ethnicity were happy to see an end to the war full if miserable experience and now they know value of peace they are enjoying.

Religious leaders, senior officers of SF-J, members of NAAL, senior citizens of the area and villagers participated in the event.
