of Commissioner General of Rehabilitation (BCGR) as a part of
its post monitoring programme to ensure strong economy of reintegrated
ex-LTTE combatants in Jaffna who were rehabilitated under the
supervision of BCGR, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation (CGR)
Brigadier Darshana Hettiarachchi paid a visit to the 55 Division
area on 12th and 13th June.
Hettiarachchi, who visited the area on request of General Officer
Commanding (GOC) 55 Division Brigadier Ajith Wijesinghe, met reintegrated
ex- LTTE combatants to discuss about further assistance that the
BCGR could extend to them. He also described the welfare measures
so far the government has taken to make a better living standard
for them and to ensure due recognition for them in society.
Mr. Rodd, a Sri Lankan expatriate domicile in Australia who joined
the CGR in this recent visit to Jaffna donated a stock of equipment
to schools, schoolchildren and poor families in the 55 Division
area. It included sports items for schools and school items for
students worth over Rs. 200,000/=. At the same time, water pumps
and hoses, fishing nets, two sewing machines and kitchen items
and cooking utensils to the value of Rs. 126770/= , donated by
Mr. Rodd, were also distributed among poor families.
Meanwhile, eight Sports Clubs received footballs from the same
philanthropist as a donation made on request of the GOC 55 Division.
The 55 Division, on guidance of the Commander Security Forces
– Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, has initiated
many welfare projects for the reintegrated ex-LTTE combatants
and destitute families in its area.
