52 Division in Varani and the 521 Brigade in Point Pedro (PPD)
offered free meals and medicinal drinks to civilians in two Dansala
organized to mark the Poson Full Moon day on 23rd June.
The 7th Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (7 VIR) at Valvettithurai
and the 19th Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (19 SLSR) of Nelliady organized
a grand rice Dansala (free meals house) at the new PPD
super market. Over 4000 civilians enjoyed lunch offered by the
General Officer Commanding 52 Division Brigadier Anura Sudhasinghe,
Commander 521 Brigade Colonel Tikiri Dissanayake, Divisional Secretary
PPD Mr. T. Jeyaseelan, Divisional Secretary Karaveddy Mr. S. Sivasri,
Mayor PPD Mr. Raveenthran, senior Army officers and distinguished
in the area attended the occasion.
Coinciding with this programme, 521 Brigade Commander Colonel
Tikiri Dissanayake and former principal of PPD Hartley College
and retired Deputy Director of Education Mr. M. Sripathi offered
lunch to patients and the staff members of Manthikai hospital
the same day.
At the same time, with coordination of the Brigade Headquarters,
a famous businessman and philanthropist at Nelliady Mr. S. Agilathas
offered free meals to poor families of Rajakamam and three-wheeler
drivers of Nelliady to mark this religiously significant day.
In the meantime, Headquarters 52 Division organized another Dansala
where noodles and medicinal drink made of coriander offered to
hundreds of passers by at Varani the same day with participation
of General Officer Commanding, senior officers and other ranks
of the Division.
