Military Sport Council (CISM) Day Run was flagged off at the Jaffna
Fort on Saturday (18). Major General Mahesh Senanayaka, Commander
SF (J) attended the event as the Chief Guest while Rear Admiral
Piyal De Silva, Commander Northern Naval Area, Major General Aruna
Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding 52 Division, Brigadier
Nirmal Koswaththa, Commander Forward Maintain Area Jaffna, Brigadier
Marvin Perera, General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Brigadier
Aruna Muhandiram, Brigadier General Staff Security Force Jaffna,
Group Captain Lasitha Sumanawera, Commanding Officer Air Force
Base Palaly, Senior Officers and Officers of the tri-forces, other
ranks were also present at the event.
One hundred and forty five Officers and eight hundred and sixty
other ranks from all three services participated in the 'CISM
Day Run' which covered a distance of about 5.2 km in Jaffna.
''Friendship through Sport'' - is the motto of the International
Military Sport Council (CISM), one of the largest multidisciplinary
organizations in the world.
Founded on the 18th of February 1948, the International Military
Sport Council (CISM) which has its General Secretariat located
in Brussels under the management of the Secretary General, organizes
various sporting events for the Armed Forces of 133 members countries,
These countries may previously have met in the battle field, now
would meet mutually in the field of Sports. The ultimate goal
of CISM is to contribute to world peace by uniting armed forces
