located at the Point Pedro area is considered as the Northern
most point in Sri Lanka and has a fantastic broad view over the
sea. This beautiful place at the edge of the Island had been overlooked
and had not taken much attention of tourists during the past.
As such Security Force
Headquarters - Jaffna launched a beautification project of "Sakkotei"
under the directives and guidance of Major General Dharshana Hettiarrachchi,
Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna. The project involved support
of troops from 55 Division and voluntary support from civilians
in the area.
"Sakkotei" project consisted with reconstruction and
beautification the attractive environment in the area. A new luminous
national flag which is visible to offshore vessels and fishermen
for their easy navigation was also set up in place of the existing
national flag. This too has added more colour and recognition
to this spectacular site.
The project also aims to uplift the residence's livelihood and
micro business with the influx of local and foreign tourists visiting
the area. Moreover, this scenic spot has given an identity and
recognition to the people in "Sakkotei" with its environmental
significance and importance in the peninsula.
This reconstructed "Sakkotei" site was declared open
to the public by the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna on 12
February 2018 with the participation of military officials and
many civilians from Point Pedro area.
