Differently Abled Soldier Completes his Expedition from Dondra Head to Point Pedro

Corporal Karunarathne P K G G of 6th Battalion of Gajaba Regiment commenced his journey on wheelchair from Dondra Head and completed the 576 km journey to Point Pedro successfully. Being a Differently Abled Soldier due to battle casualties, Corporal Karunarathne is a resident care patient at Abhimansala-3 located in Pangolla.

The Differently Abled Soldier had completed the challenge in commemoration of the International Day of Disabled Persons which falls on 03rd of December annually and bring forward the message of Peace to entire country. The journey took him 8 days to complete while he was assisted by Military Police personnel and the Police throughout his journey by road. This daunting journey which commenced on 3rd December came to an end on 11th December at Point Pedro. On completion of this remarkable expedition at Jaffna, he was greeted by the Commander Security Force Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi. A grand felicitation ceremony was held by Troops of Security Force Jaffna cheering the brave soldier in appreciation of his achievement as he terminated this remarkable journey.

Dignitaries representing all religions, Major General Shavendra Silva Adjutant General and Colonel of the Regiment GR, Divisional Secretaries from vadamarachchi North and Maradankeni, Senior Officers, Officers and Troops of the Armed Forces, the Police, Government Officials and a large number of civilians were present to Witness the occasion.
