[Updated :: 2010-06-13 11:17:46 Hours]

Responding to a humanitarian request made by medical authorities, 51 Division deployed in Jaffna town under the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna (SF-J) organized a blood donation campaign on the 1st of June at Jaffna Teaching hospital.

Director of the Jaffna Teaching hospital informed the General Officer Commanding 51 Division Brigadier Sarath Wijesinghe of the scarcity of sufficient blood at the Jaffna hospital blood bank and requested for donation of blood needed for urgent treatment to some serious patients.

A large number of officers and other ranks volunteered to give blood as a gesture of humanity during the blood donation campaign.

Director Teaching Hospital Jaffna praised the Army’s positive and swift response to the request and thanked all who donated blood for the sake of needy patients.

In many earlier instances too, the 51 Division had organized blood donation camps for the hospital.
