The most venerated Nallur Temple in Jaffna worshipped by Hindus and Buddhists irrespective of their religious faith will celebrate its annual festival beginning from 15th August until 9th of September.

While arrangements are being made for this grand religious festival, Commander Security Forces-Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe met Sri Kumaraswamy Mapana Mudaliyar, the caretaker – “Dharmakartha” of the Nallur Kovil to get his guidance as to how the Army could assist to make the festival a success.

The meeting between the SF-J Commander accompanied by his Senior Staff Officers and the “Dharmakartha” took place on Friday (the 15th morning) morning at the latter’s residence in Nallur Kovil premises. Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe assured his fullest support by way of security. In addition, he promised Sri Kumaraswamy Mapana Mudaliyar that any required assistance would be extended at the request of the organizers if needed.

The festival which will last for twenty six days will culminate on 9th September with Thirukalyanam.

The Nallur Hindu Temple dedicated to God Skandha was founded in 1540 and was destroyed by Portuguese, the first European invaders in Sri Lanka in 1601.

After the meeting at the Nallur Kovil, Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe called on Guru Mahasannidhanam, Chief Incumbent of Nallai Gnanasambanthar Adeenam at his Ashram (residence) in Nallur.

Matters pertaining to public security and religious reawakening in the peninsula were the focus of discussion at the meeting of the religious leader and the SF-J Commander.
