Will Do Whatever Possible to Make Annual Festival a Success”; SF-J
Commander Tells Nallur Kovil Dharmakartha

The most venerated Nallur Temple in Jaffna worshipped by Hindus
and Buddhists irrespective of their religious faith will celebrate
its annual festival beginning from 15th August until 9th of September.
While arrangements are being made for this grand religious festival,
Commander Security Forces-Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe
met Sri Kumaraswamy Mapana Mudaliyar, the caretaker – “Dharmakartha”
of the Nallur Kovil to get his guidance as to how the Army could
assist to make the festival a success.
The meeting between the SF-J Commander accompanied by his Senior
Staff Officers and the “Dharmakartha” took place on Friday (the
15th morning) morning at the latter’s residence in Nallur Kovil
premises. Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe assured his fullest support by
way of security. In addition, he promised Sri Kumaraswamy Mapana
Mudaliyar that any required assistance would be extended at the
request of the organizers if needed.
The festival which will last for twenty six days will culminate
on 9th September with Thirukalyanam.
The
Nallur Hindu Temple dedicated to God Skandha was founded in 1540
and was destroyed by Portuguese, the first European invaders in
Sri Lanka in 1601.
After the meeting at the Nallur Kovil,
Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe called on Guru Mahasannidhanam, Chief Incumbent
of Nallai Gnanasambanthar Adeenam at his Ashram (residence)
in Nallur.
Matters pertaining to public security and religious reawakening
in the peninsula were the focus of discussion at the meeting of
the religious leader and the SF-J Commander.
