With view to reviewing feasibility for reopening former industrial places which were closed down due to LTTE activities, and to study the environment for new industrial opportunities, officials of the Board of Investment (BOI) visited Jaffna on Saturday (17.07.2010)

The delegation comprising Chairman BOI Mr. Jayampathi Bandaranayake, senior officials of the BOI and giants in the field of investment working with the BOI first met Commander Security Forces-Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe who presented an overall view of the Jaffna’s situation. SF-J Commander reiterated the need of opening up some industrial sites to increase employment opportunities and mitigate suffering of unemployed youth in Jaffna.

The delegation inspected some abandoned industrial places in Jaffna and assessed feasibilities to open up new factories creating a considerable number of employments for job-seeking people in Jaffna.

They also met Hon. Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Development Mr. Douglas Devananda to discuss the possible areas which could be developed as productive industries.
