SCs & SF-J Teams at Friendly Encounters

Jaffna district basketball team, in their encounter with the 52
Division team of Security Forces-Jaffna (SF-J), recorded a grand
victory on Thursday 8th defeating their opponents after a tough
game played at the Division Headquarters ground in Varani.
The winning team had to battle hard to score since the 52 Division
team posed a big challenge from the beginning. The Army team comprised
players representing Brigades and Units deployed under the 52 Division
which organized the tournament under the guidance of General Officer
Commanding Brigadier Lal Perera.
Meanwhile, a cricket tournament organized between Wadamarachchi
and Thenmarachchi sports clubs and SF-J teams was held for three
weeks at different locations in respective areas. Sixteen teams
representing various sports clubs and fifteen Army teams representing
various Units took part in preliminary matches started on 14th June.
However, Karaveddi Gnanam Sports Club team and 3 (Volunteer) Sri
Lanka Sinha Regiment (3(V) SLSR) team were selected for finals which
saw 3 (V) SLSR soldiers won the match.

Those sports events were organized to improve the skills of youth
in the area, who missed opportunities due to terrorist activities
in the north and to strengthen the rapport between Army and civilians.
Priests, senior officers of the Army, Police, civil administration
and education field and villagers witnessed the event.
