[Updated :: 2010-06-19 11:30:22 Hours]

“Close relations between soldiers and Jaffna people have enabled the Army to understand their problems in broader perspective and through that genuine experience Jaffna-based Security Forces could cater to their needs with better perception”, said the Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SF-(J)) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe participating in ‘Subharathi’ live conversational broadcast conducted by Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) Friday (18.06.2010) morning.

This popular educative programme being broadcast from 7.00 a.m. to 8.00 a.m. through SLBC National channel was organized at the Jaffna Civil Affairs and Public Relations Office coinciding with the first year celebration of the National Victory over LTTE terrorism which put the whole country into agency for more than thirty years.

Answering questions raised during the programme, SF-(J) Commander described the involvement of Jaffna Security Forces in government’s effort to uplift the standard of health, education, sports and other basic aspects of the Jaffna life in the post war scenario.

Citing the Vesak celebrations recently organized by the SF-(J), opening of some catholic churches and Hindu temples within the Palaly High Security Zone for the general public to continue with their religious observances, Major General M Hathurusinghe portrayed the Army’s effort to develop spiritual life of people through religion, whatever the belief is. Commander also added that visitors, at their entrance to the peninsula via Elephant Pass, are made aware by the Army of the culture and practices of Jaffna community so that no misunderstanding would occur during their short stay here.

Regional Director of Health Services Dr. Ketheeswaran, Medical Officer Jaffna Teaching hospital Dr. Umapathy who represented the Director and Principal and Matron of Jaffna Nursing School Mrs. Arulananthan aired their views on the health services in Jaffna.

The programme conducted by Director News SLBC Mr. Indika Jayarathne was internationally broadcast through web transmission.
